How to clean and polish aluminium in your kitchen
Both your appliances and pots and pans can be made of aluminium and sometimes they can dis-colour, this is caused by oxidization and can cause the shiny silver to become grey and dull.
Here are some tips to help you restore the shine.
For pots and pans, the first step is to wash them in hot water which should remove the layer of grease and oil on them.
However, if this doesn’t come off with this method then use a sponge with a scrubbing side, this will help remove any stubborn grease or oil.
Don’t use anything more abrasive as this will leave scratches which you won’t be able to remove.
To remove the tarnish, this can be done with a mild acid for example add water, vinegar and a whole sliced up lemon in your pot and then bring to boil allowing to simmer for 20 minutes.
Make sure you rinse your pan after this and dry thoroughly.
To brighten up your appliances make sure you:
Remove grime, food, grease and fingerprint marks from the surface. This can be done by using a clean cloth with washing up liquid.
Once the appliance is clean, then you need to make it shine!
Both olive oil or baby oil can be used to do this. Simply dampen a microfiber cloth and wipe over the appliance. Make sure you completely rub in the oil to avoid streaks and buff away any excess oil.
If you leave oil on the appliance dust particles will stick to it as well as insects.
Stand back and enjoy the sparkle!
